Hephaestus 6/10 (I have played games where you don't have any copper, and you really need some to build armor or statues, both of which are also expensive on the trade market. Still, I could see these benefits being neat in certain situations.)
In many situation I don't want to speed up production, in other words. My big problem with Atlas is that I often want temple construction to take long, to keep the plebes employed in gainful labor. The only possible reason to choose Poseidon is because he can counter any god except for Zeus - again if he feels like it. Dude, do you realize how easy it is to make a lot of food? Also, who cares about the Kraken if I can't even place it myself? It could be useful - if it feels like it. Poseidon 6/10 (Sorry, for being the SECOND MOST EXPENSIVE temple in the game, I really don't need more fish. Still, olive oil is so massive for your city, you kind of have to build this if you don't have it.) And boy, I am not going to leave my city's fate to the Impression games idea of real time strategy. I know she will "give my soldiers GREAT STRENGTH" but what does that even mean? Since she is the goddess of defensive warfare, I assume that applies strictly to defensive war. He kills two birds with one stone.)Īthena 7/10 (Athena is my personal favorite from the Greek roster, but boy, she is so mediocre this game if you don't need olive oil. Hermes helps you move product out of your over-stocked warehouses also. Hermes improves your ability to do that across the board. Still, in any game, you want to trade to make lots of money. If you are playing a city that is not self-dependent, Hermes massively benefits your economy. Play the Athenian campaign and you will understand why. Hermes 8/10 (it's a small, cheap temple, but it can be a game changer. I also like that he gives you the ability to build mints, because that's just a chance to employ the dirty proles.) Cerebrus is nice if he feels like humping the enemy soldiers. It lets you win colony missions without any sweat.
It doesn't take up space, and it lets you buy what you need.
Hades 8/10 (Call me greedy, but money is just so good in this game. There is no doubt in my mind that he is the 4th best god.) I am gratified by winning the games, which gives you nice monuments to keep the rich people happy. Him ACTUALLY APPEARING AND IMMEDIATELY killing the monsters is very good. I decided to just edge him out of the must-haves, because sometimes you are so affluent that you don't really worry about things like monsters or other threats. Artemis gives you just that.)Īpollo 9/10 (I often debate whether Apollo is a must have.

Build this early and sow those teeth - because you will have a professional army without the headaches of bending backwards for those awful pats.)Īrtemis 9/10 (Developing your society to have 2 entire cohorts of professional soldiers is the hardest part of the entire game. I like that challenge almost as much as any actual benefit he gives.)Īres 10/10 (Ares gives you two cohorts, is small, which is good, and gives you the dragon, which might be useful or might just run around doing nothing. Most importantly, he has the biggest and most complicated temple to build, and the temple is massive. He sanctifies everything, he stops enemy armies. Also, Zeus can do everything that Apollo can, and Apollo is already really good. Zeus prevents any of that happening, except against Hera presumably. But if you piss of Poseidon or Hades, there is literally nothing you can do except watch them mess up your city. You can bribe invading armies, and you can get heroes to fight monsters. Zeus 10/10 (Zeus is the biggest and baddest of all gods. TIER 1 - If available, I will 100% build this one I am not going to take cost into consideration - usually you want to wait to build a more expensive temple, anyway. I am going to rank all the gods based on my playing experience. One of the most interesting choices you must make in this game is what gods you will choose to build temples to - you only get four if space is not another constraining factor.
